Putting this here since it's mainly a console series, derp. So, Ubisoft's popular Assassin's Creed series is getting yet another installment, they've announced recently. Revelations will follow the movements of all three protagonists (Altaïr, Ezio, Desmond, with focus on Ezio, I think?) and will act as a sequel. It's not, however, Assassin's Creed III which is kind of where my disappointment lies. We don't know much about it yet, but what are your thoughts? I personally feel they're stretching it a bit too thin now. I mean, I love the games, I love the gameplay, I love the plot, I love the characters but... if they keep using Ezio, I'm afraid I'm gonna get tired of him. I'd rather they hurry up and take what they've learnt from ACII/Brotherhood and apply it to the big sequel instead of another side story. D:
Yeaaaah I agree with you. I like Ezio and all but I'm ready for somebody new. Honestly it kind of seems like they're wasting their time on another offshoot instead of putting a lot of effort into AC3. I know I definitely won't be getting it at full price, probably wait until it's a bit cheaper or something.
I love Ezio, he's one of my favorite characters in all of gaming. That said, they're really starting to drag on with his saga. The AC series is probably my favorite new franchise of this gen, but it's not something I want to be playing every year. Brotherhood was great, but it felt a bit samey and came too soon after AC2, which was phenomenal. Now Revelations is coming this year, and it just seems like the series is getting milked. I just hope it ties together all three major storylines of the series and sets things up for a proper AC3.
I'll probably be passing on a release date buy with this too, which will make it the first main game I'll be waiting on since AC2. :/ It felt like the only reason Brotherhood did so well was because they had multiplayer to hype up in addition to (what was a surprisingly solid) single player campaign. But even if they include a multiplayer aspect in Revelations, I'm just not excited for it. I already know it's just filler simply because it's not titled "Assassin's Creed III" so my interest is already waning.
Honestly, I'm more excited for this game than any of the previous ones, so it's definitely a day-one purchase (if possible) for me. I do wish they'd move on to a new ancestor, but hey, Ezio certainly isn't a bad character; plus, I'm glad we'll be able to see exactly how his story ends. Also, I'm interested in seeing how we're able to play as Altair... I'm wondering if they'll just be short levels, or if there's actually a complete alternate version of the game map for his time period. I'm hoping for the latter, even if it probably isn't true. Also also, I'm fine with yearly installments, as long as they're as good as - if not better than - the previous games. Brotherhood looked like it'd be more of the same, and while it sort of was, it was easily the best game yet in the series.
I'm glad Altiar is back. And a new location. And.... that's about it so far. I'd like something newish. Brotherhood felt "samey"
I was thoroughly unimpressed with the gameplay demo during Ubisoft's E3 conference. It looked like Assassin's Creed, yes, but...that's it. I love the series but I don't want to get burned out on it, and releasing a new game with little change every year is a good way to burn someone out on a series. I really think they should have taken a break this year, and maybe tied Revelations into AC3 somehow. Right now it seems like they're really just milking the franchise.
They've been milking the series since the first game, with all those crappy spinoffs. The only reason I wanted Brotherhood was for the multiplayer and then I ended up not liking it and preferring the single player anyway. It's the first console AC where I didn't bother 1000G'ing the achievements. And I still haven't played that DLC for it, despite buying and downloading it, oops. XD; But this game seems... idk. I was really hoping the trailer and gameplay at the Ubisoft conference would sell me on it, but the trailer was really boring for me except for Altair's appearances which looked like hallucinations anyway. ;( And the gameplay didn't look like anything new. The flamethrower seemed pretty hax and looked like it handled like the cannons and stuff from ACB anyway. I'll get it, but probably not at launch like I have the other games.
Man I need to play the Assassin's Creed series a lot more often! I've only played Assassin's Creed II all the way through and I enjoyed it thoroughly. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I was planning on buying Assassin's Creed I and Brotherhood but exams and other circumstances made me forget to buy them. I'm definitely picking up Revelations though and if I enjoy it enough, I'll go back and pick up the rest of the series. If it plays anything like II (which I see no reason why it shouldn't) I would be very happy!
Trust me when I say that you need to play Brotherhood before Revelations. If you don't, well... the story of Revelations will confuse the living daylights out of you, I can assure you that. On top of that, Brotherhood is an all-around great game that you should play anyway.
