When you start a new game and it prompts you to name your character, what's your go-to name? Do you use the default name given? What do you put in when there isn't a default? What's your preference? Inspired by P3P where I just had to look up what the fandom's common name for the female protagonist was because otherwise I'd have to make up a first and last name and I wasn't feeling particularly creative. :(
Either Eric or Ooka always. Just because it's what always fit when I was playing Pokemon, so I never switch it around. Unoriginal I know. xD
If the character has an official name, I always use that. The exception is in Pokemon games, where I use my actual name.
I normally just use my real name, even in the Zelda games. But with Pokemon, I used my real name in Emerald and every game after that I used a name that I just like. I figured that if I used my real name in all the games it would get confusing since it would be hard to tell which Pokemon came from which game as all the OTs would be the same so I use different names to differentiate. For example, I've used: Terry, Lucas, Ralph, and Darcy. I think I'm going to use the name Brendan in Black 2. It apparently means 'dark one' which is appropriate since black is a dark colour.
This. Although, if I don't like the official name and I'm given the chance the change it, then I'll use my actual name or a username I'm using online.
I forgot I posted this haha. I use official names wherever possible except in Pokemon, like Geoff. It actually stresses me out sometimes when there's no default name. In Pokemon I name myself Erica, often with a symbol next to it of sorts to differentiate from the rest of my games. In everything else, I just use "Cherrim" which sometimes leads to hilarious incidents like in Nier when "Cherrim" was a middle-aged buff guy who was pretty dumb and chest bumped everywhere on the double jump. Speaking of Nier, one of my biggest gaming peeves is when I am prompted for a name and they don't tell me if it's just to name the save file or if it will actually be my character's name or what.
Situation 1: Main protagonist has an official default name, I use the official name. Situation 1a: Pokemon games--most of the protagonists have "default" names (even if not explicitly listed anymore--like the female in BW is Hilda) but I use some variant of my own name Situation 2: There is no default name for the main character given or hinted at. I use "Cherrim" as the name. Kind of confusing but what I said is still technically correct, I think?
