With the current generation in its twilight, gamers are looking to 2013 and 2014 as the dawn of the next generation of consoles. We already have the Wii U, which is comparable to the current-gen Xbox 360 and PS3, but what do you expect from the successors to those consoles? Big graphical leaps? New features/gimmicks? Astronomical price points? Share your thoughts here and let's get a good discussion going!

I don't expect that major of a leap in terms of visuals-- games will definitely look better, but I don't see there being that much of an improvement as there was between the previous and current generations.

All I'm hoping for is that the new PS will have true multitasking. I hate not being able to listen to music from my system while gaming.

That would be pretty great. Hopefully, they integrate party chat, too. I think it's available on Vita, so I guess it's a given, but you never know.

Party chat on the next PS is all I'd really want and even then, I dunno, since everyone always gets multiplayer games on 360 anyway so I doubt I'd really have anyone to talk to.

I'd like to see less ads on the 360 successor.

Yeah party chat would also be pretty nice, certainly would beat the text chat, lol.

There will probably be some graphical improvements, but I don't think it'll be a big deal. Not as a big a jump as the last gen. Probably more realted to number of enemies on screen, but really how many games have pushed that to its limit on current system? Not much.

Really, I see Sony and Microsoft continuing to go up the living room dominance angle. Which doesn't do much for me because I prefer dedicated devices for each function

I expect and hope to see more fluidity in games, they should really try to keep things as smooth as they can whilst trying to make connection better because that would please so many people especially in massively multiplayer-based games. Also, hopefully new consoles will be able to handle more FPS and that will enable better graphics. Furthermore, nothing too big, but making sure that DLC is available for consoles at the same time; an example of when this is a problem is what is happening with Skyrim now, the DLC gets released a lot later for the PS3. However, I still think there should be distinct differences between the consoles, because if they became too similar it would be bad. Period.

(I THINK) Microsoft uses money gained from Xbox live memberships to pay game developers to release on their console early. Xbox BO2 players also get each DLC one month before PS3 players. Unfortunately I don't think we'll see a change there, unless MS makes the move to free online services which I doubt.

Sony does the same thing with Battlefield 3, and some other game I can't remember the name of.
