What are your thoughts on Kinect? Limited gimmick, or promising technology? Is it living up to its potential?
There is definitely potential within Kinect to be really good, but there's been little real effort to yield this potential, so for now, as with the Wii, it's another gimmick mostly plagued by shovelware. The Wii has a few games that are really good and use the motion functions superbly, lets hope Kinect follows that path too.
Kinect suffers from the 'gimic' opinion for me. With everyone jumping on motion controls when it was released, it was just another form of trying to get people to be active when gaming. Now they have released the SDK of it for the Computer, it is interesting. I have been looking into it, don't own a kinect just the sdk side, and I think the potential is rather interesting, but not from a gaming front for me. You can program it to do amazing things, but when you try and incorporated them into a game, it turns me off the idea right away.
