Easy enough question. What was your first gaming system ever? We've had a thread about your first game, so let's talk about the actual systems. For me, I had a DOS PC growing up that I played some old classics like Commander Keen and Jetpack on, but my first actual "gaming" system was my Game Boy Color. My parents never really saw the point of buying me consoles when I had a computer, and they weren't overly big on encouraging my gaming habits either, but they finally relented and bought me a GBC for Christmas when I was...11, I believe.
I remember Commander Keen! That and Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats were fun times. But before even those times, for me, was the NES. My Dad brought it home, when I was a wee toddler, from a business trip to the U.S. I have no idea why. They sold them here in Canada just fine. Brought it home with Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt, Tetris, Sesame Street 123 & ABC, and Blades of Steel. I would think he essentially just wanted to play a hockey game and the guy at the store recommended Blades of Steel (over, say, Nintendo's own Ice Hockey with Gretzky on the cover). The control deck came with Mario and Duck Hunt, of course. And then as a way to justify it, Dad threw in Sesame Street for me lol Tetris I don't know how that got in the mix. And that was my entire NES library forever.
My first video game console was the original Xbox. I didn't even know what it was to be honest, but we soon spent hours and hours on that thing. Some of the games I remember playing a lot were Fusion Frenzy, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2X, and an old Spongebob game I can't remember the name of. I don't think my parents expected up to spend that much time on video games, and they might not have bought it if they knew, but oh well, it was a lot of fun and we still have a working Xbox somewhere.
The first system that my family got when I was growing up was a Sega Genesis, back in either 1994 or 95 (too young to remember which, haha). Funny enough, it was my dad's excuse to be able to play hockey games as well, which I ended up picking up on, too. Most of my early days were spent playing Sonic 2, ECCO, Jurassic Park, and Tazmania, before I started getting into the sports games.
