So, the newest Animal Crossing game comes out in America and Europe next month for the 3DS. Anyone plan on picking it up? If so, we should all add each other so we can play together sometime. I plan on getting it, hopefully at release. As of late, I haven't had much time to sink into games, so I've been playing games I can play in short bursts (Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, namely). I loved AC as a kid, and haven't played it since Wild World came out, so I figure it'd be a good match for my current situation.
I tried playing the DS Animal Crossing and I just couldn't get into it. :( I always feel like I'm missing out so I've been really tempted to get the 3DS one but I'm scared I won't like that one either. *sigh*
I'm tempted every now and then to revisit my Animal Crossing games, but...the weeds. So many weeds! And roaches! I don't get why they included those features. Why penalize me because I don't play your game every single day!
I loved the GCN Animal Crossing. I played it all the time. I haven't enjoyed any of the titles after it though. Wild World on the DS did a lot of good, but it changed the conversation system and the later games have adopted that change. On the GCN game most of what I did was pattern making and conversations. I could choose to chat or to offer my assistance with a chore. They made it random now and I don't like it. Changed the way I play. Sometimes I don't want to do a chore, I just want to gossip with the animals. One option or the other in succession. And the change to the conversation system broke that flow that I enjoyed So, not interested in it.
I only played Wild World and City Folk, and found them to be almost the exact same game. And since I found the tasks in the game to be menial, unrewarding, and chore-like busywork, I doubt I'll be picking up New Leaf unless it has some drastic changes.
Yeah, CF was pretty much the same as WW from what I've seen/heard. New Leaf has a lot of changes/additions, though.
New Leaf is getting some good reviews, but what I'm taking away from reading them is...it's the same game as past ACs but with you being the mayor. But being mayor is really limited and doesn't add all that much. So...it's practically the same as the old games, but getting glowing reviews when CF got slammed for the same thing?
Being the mayor lets you customize a lot more than you used to be able to. You have more control over the village's layout, more control over when shops are open (iirc), how you can customize your house's appearance, and some other stuff.
I think the Animal Crossing games are like Pokemon games. There aren't radical changes between games, just modifications and improvements. When you buy a new Pokemon game you have to start all over again, filling up your Pokedex and whatnot. With Animal Crossing, when you buy the next entry, you have to start all over, filling up your bug and fish collection, and upgrading your house. Whether or not you want to buy the next game in either series depends on whether or not you enjoy doing everything all over again.
