A new Arkham game was announced recently! Who is excited? Rocksteady is back at the healm. Conroy is voicing Bats again. Dini is still out as writer though :( And it's next-gen (current now?) only. And PC. I don't want to buy a PS4 just yet...
I really enjoyed Asylum, but I still need to play City and Origins, so I don't see this making me get a next-gen console anytime soon. It's nice to finally see some next-gen exclusives that aren't being held back by being cross-gen though.
Of the three, I still like Asylum the best. Had a nice... Metroidvania kind of feel to it. And that just goes out the window in an open world game. I thought that was lost a bit in City, but returned in Origins. I'm glad we have a Batmobile to drive now in Knight
So this is coming out on June 2...meaning I have until then to play City. I'll probably just skip Origins since I don't have the game anyway and I don't think it's particularly "essential" from what I've heard. Then again, I've also already had the ending of City spoiled for me.
Origins is "samey", but better than City I found. Just refines what was done before it a bit. Asylum > Origins > City
I'm kind of curious as to how the "city" aspect of City translates to an Arkham game, because I thought the limited, closed-off environment of the asylum was one of the strengths of the original game. I've heard mixed things (from you as well as other people), so it'll be interesting when I finally get around to playing it.
That's why I prefer Asylum, yes. It's a wonderful, tight, Metroidvania-type game. That exists in City too in the interiors of the buildings, but the whole it feels disjointed. Origins, somehow, struck a better balance. It's largely the same exterior map but it feels like there are more nooks and crannies about and the placing of enemies better, so you can still work your way into sneaky battles - but the exploration aspect still suffers
To me, the best part of Asylum was just hanging up in the shadows then swooping down and pecking the enemies off one by one, watching them get more and more terrified as time went on. I think the smallish areas helped that, and I can't imagine how that's going to translate into a large city.
