With the announcement of Civilization VI, I've recently rediscovered this franchise and I've been putting a crapton of my gaming time into Civ V lately. I'd dabbled into the games but the only one that had really hooke me before was Civ Rev - probably because it wasn't so dauntingly complex and the games were much shorter so you didn't have to spend hours upon end on a single match. But I started playing Civ V again a couple weeks ago and got hooked on it. I picked up the expansions while they were on sale this past week (since I apparently didn't have them, even though I thought I did?), and I've been getting used to the mechanics that they added. And I think I may pick up Civ VI on day one - or at least not long after release. Do we have any Civilization fans here?
Considering I'm always playing with you, I may as well post in here! I'm pretty bad at these sorts of games, since I can never seem to optimize my build path and go the most efficient route, but I seem to be getting the hang of taking over anyone that declares war on me. I'm not sure if I'll pick up the sixth edition, but if my friends do, then I most likely will. My first Civ game was IV, and other than listening to Baba Yetu on the main screen for an hour before hopping into a game, I didn't really know what I was doing. I still don't, but at least I can pretend I know stuff while playing with friends.
I've noticed myself getting better at expansion and whatnot. I always had trouble with balancing everything and usually something wound up falling by the wayside - usually my army. But I've started working on building my military forces earlier in the game in the last few games I've played and noticed myself doing a little bit better. Still haven't really tried for a cultural victory yet. I haven't really grasped the whole great works/tourism system.
