Retro's big new secret project is a Wii U entry in the Donkey Kong Country series entitled Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. View the full article
Donkey Kong Country Returns was a solid outing by Retro (although, I think Nintendo EAD's Jungle Beat was much better and significantly more refreshing take on the series), but I don't really want another one. Especially if we have viking animals instead of Kremlings. Dissapointed their project was something different/better/bigger/Metroid EDIT: They've brought David Wise onboard for the music! Oh. Urge to dislike this game dropping
To me, the David Wise thing just screams even more that they're riding on nostalgia rather than trying anything new. It's really disappointing that they've been teasing Retro's new project as being something really big and it turns out to just be another DKC - would much rather have had a new IP, resurrection of an old IP, or even another Metroid.
I still think that the fact they hired ex-Vigil and Naughty Dog staff has some sort of hidden meaning. It might be leaning more towards hope, though. :/
I really don't think, or at least hope, they're not going to be used for this game. Like... they hired artists, and this game looks the same as its predecessor What a waste that would be. They've got to have something else they're working on. Possibly. But, for me, the music was the worst part of the first game because they tried to rely on nostalgia so much. Just about every piece of music (except for what accompanied the goofy tikis) was a remix from the original DKC. With Wise onboard, I think we'll actually have new music. Heck, he wrote an entirely new soundtrack for the GBA port of DKC3. I'm expecting new stuff, not well-done remixes. If that doesn't happen, I won't be impressed. Also, given how well the DKCR port to the 3DS turned out, I'd rather this be a 3DS game. Between NSMBU, NSLU, SM3DW, DuckTales, and that Yoshi's Epic Yarn game - the Wii U doesn't need yet another platformer in its library so soon. Even if they're all good platformers. Overkill. Need some diversity
I want this game to be made...just not now. I hoped Retro was working on something else this whole time. Also, Tropical Freeze sounds like a Capri Sun beverage :P
