Once again, Nintendo will be foregoing the traditional press conference in favor of what they are terming the Nintendo Digital Event, which will go live on Tuesday, June 10, at 9:00 a.m. PDT (12:00 p.m. EDT). Post all your predictions, impressions, and thoughts before, during, and after the conference in this thread! This is meant to serve as a general discussion thread. Please feel free to make new threads for game announcements, other major announcements, or anything else you'd like to discuss! All our E3 news posts will be posted to this forum for commenting as well.
I am absolutely fine with having a Digital Event over a press conference. I don't need to sit through spreadsheets and bad jokes from presenters, or big Cirque-like extravaganzas that lose their luster when not experienced in person. I think this format works better. Nintendo gets to control everything, the entire message from start to finish. No technical glitches. No game demo issues. Any comedic bits are ironed out before hand (and they're quite good at this on their Nintendo Directs). Just game announcements and unveilings in succession. With trailers. Really, that's all we're looking for isn't it? Now, as for wants and expectations... 1) Zelda - We got a big Hyrule Warriors dump from Nintendo lately, I'm thinking this is to get it out of the way so they can focus on the big, new, true Wii U entry. It was said last year that it was ready to be presented, but they held off. So, it's gotta be there this year. Not to mention a Majora's Mask remake; long hinted, and strongly several times last year. I hope we see both of these 2) Metroid - We're overdue for Metroid. I would like to see two titles like we did when Metroid was revitalized way back when and we got both Prime and Fusion at the same time. Give us something like the sidescrolling Metroidvania style but updated, and a Prime-like first person adventure. Give this great series a much needed kick in the pants again. 3) Focus on the Wii U Game Pad - Nintendo needs to show us why the Wii U has this tablet and why they won't remove it. Why it's essential. And... pretty much, they already told us this will be a focus and that the intention is all Wii U games shown will have the tablet as an integral aspect (which makes me wary for Zelda, because I want Skyward Sword / Battle Quest motion plus controls) 4) Quality of Life stuff - Maybe??? I have no idea 5) Near Field Communication - Both their NFC game thing and how it'll work with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 6) More of X and Bayonetta 2 - New trailers, game play footage. I'd imagine they're playable on the show floor 7) Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem - idk, it seems like a thing 8) Yarn Yoshi - We haven't heard about Good Feel's new game for awhile... 9) New project from Retro Studios - Ideally not Donkey Kong Country. I'd be alright with Metroid, but really I want them to be handed another franchise or show off something new altogether. I think the long rumoured Sheik game isn't happening. May have manifested into playing as Impa (and who knows who else) in Hyrule Warriors 10) New project from Miyamoto - We keep hearing rumblings about this. He's working on something, winding down, smaller teams, etc. What's he doing? 11) New projects from Next Level Games, and EAD Tokyo - Largely, I'm more interested in the later than the former because everything they touch is gold. Only throwing in NLG because they like Nintendo and Nintendo likes them. They aren't yet a Nintendo subsidary or second-party, but NLG has said they want to work with Nintendo exclusively, so... they must be working on something. 12) Nintendo Software Technology revival - EAD Tokyo's been getting a lot of love lately crafting Japanese magic. How about we get NST active again. Traditionally, they focus on the North American market. Give them Wave Race, F-Zero, Star Fox, Wario Land, something. One of the forgotten children. 13) FPS and RPG - Big genres that Nintendo is lacking in and with the absence of third parties on their platforms... We need something here. Even if done as partnership or an exclusive and not actually made by Nintendo's studios. 14) Luigi's Mansion Wii U - Because we heard mention of it once before, even if in error. Including it here because, why not 15) GCN - GameCube HD remakes! We've heard about this before too 16) Nintendo Network improvements - I don't think so, but it's a long-staning rumour. 17) Pokken Fighters - Maybe not, Pokémon doesn't normally show up at E3... but it wouldn't be a main gen entry 18) Super Smash Bros. - Probably some portion of the Digital Event will be on this 19) My ultimate blue sky, never going to happen request - Nintendo gets the Banjo-Kazooie IP and world peace occurs 20) Pikmin 4 - Would it be too much to ask that I not have to wait another ten years for the next game?
I've said what I want from Nintendo at E3 here. So now I'll say what I think will happen/won't happen: 1.) We won't get anything Mario. Mario has been done to death lately, with a major release in the series every year (Super Mario 3D World, NSMBU, NSMB2, Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, NSMBWii). I think many people would like to see Super Mario Galaxy 3 for Wii U but for me, NO MORE MARIO! 2.) No Pokemon for Wii U. They'll just show gameplay footage of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. 3.) I think a new StarFox game will happen but I'm not that excited about it. 4.) I think Retro Studios is making Metroid Prime 4 and definitely not another DK game since Tropical Freeze to my knowledge hasn't sold well. 5.) Three Zelda games wil be shown: Hyrule Warriors, MM remake, and the new Zelda for Wii U. 6.) Miyamoto will show his new IP and I still believe it will be his take on the FPS genre since that's the only genre Nintendo is absent on.
