Only thing I'm interested so far is maybe the Playstation TV (I'd love to try out 3D games and that's really affordable for something that would fit in a dorm room). And I guess I'm also in love with Skyrim after seeing some gameplay today but I know that won't be a first-day buy for me since I wasn't a huge fan of Oblivion. Mostly I just want to explore it, haha. Otherwise, nothing really piqued my interest. I really wanted to buy the Vita and was sitting on the edge of my seat hoping they'd announce something really awesome to make me buy it, but nope. Nothing interesting. I got the same feeling with Assassin's Creed: Revelations. D: I really want a reason to get it but it looks kind of dull and definitely like an unnecessary cash grab.
I was impressed with the tech and price point of Vita. And then... nothing was announced that would make me want to buy it :\ It has the potential to be my first Sony platform, first one that ever piqued my interest. But still not enough. I'm going for the 3DS. There's nothing on it right now (that's why I haven't bought it yet). But we know there will be (they should have just waited to release this thing).
I was impressed with the Vita hardware itself, and the price is unbelievable - I was expecting $350-400. But there really weren't any games shown that I'm interested in, so I'll likely wait a bit to get one. I think Nintendo is going to have some stiff competition though...they should have launched 3DS at $199.
There are a fair number of NGP games that I'd gladly pick up at launch. Project Gravity, the Vanillaware game, the Dynasty Warriors game, Hot Shots Golf, Bioshock, LittleBigPlanet, and more all looked great, even though most were only shown for a few seconds in a clip reel. At $250, the NGP (I will never call it by that other name T___________T) is an absolute lock for a day-one purchase. I don't give a damn about power in handheld hardware, but considering the price it's launching at, the power is definitely a plus! Nintendo should be very, very nervous right now, especially considering that handheld game development in Japan shifted drastically toward the PSP later in this generation.
I agree fully with what Kaga said. It is going to be interesting to see how Nintendo respond. They REALLY have to address the 3DS and release enough content to warrant it being able to stand up against the NGP. (I also prefer NGP). I think the NGP has the most potential now, since Sony have shown off cool games or it; Uncharted and Bioshock have a massive fan base, so it will be interesting to see those games.
Nintendo had an absolutely pathetic E3 conference. Where were the game announcements? Solid release dates? There wasn't even a shred of gameplay. It was all talking with a few trailers thrown in here and there, and vague release windows that we all knew about given for games that we already knew about. What's with no Xenoblade? No Last Story? They're not even on the release list for 2011, so that makes it pretty obvious they're not coming to North America. Wii has nothing besides Kirby and Skyward Sword coming out between now and the end of 2012...oh, but there's always Mario Party 9, which got confirmed! And Wii U was not ready for unveiling. They had no gameplay footage, no games to announce, nothing. Just a controller and some tech demos.
Keep in mind, though, that the PSP really wasn't a very popular system. The only reason it gained such a following in its late history in Japan was because of the Monster Hunter series. I just hope Sony has that lined up for the Vita or I don't think it'll be snatched up like the 3DS has been. But it does have a very solid Western backing thus far, so I expect it to do well here. On paper it sounds really gimmicky but then they went ahead and showed a lot of high-profile games for it that a lot of people here will pick up easily. I think it'll do better here than in Japan, at least until it has some Japanese exclusives, but we'll probably heard about a lot of those come TGS! (Also, Geoff says it's not region-locked and that essentially cements my desire to get and support it before the 3DS. I import about a game a year so region-locking is a big no for me.) I slept through the Nintendo conference and I don't regret it one bit. The Wii U is a horrible name and the controller looks even more awkward to hold than the Wii remote ever was. I am tiny, Nintendo! There is absolutely no way I can press the -/+ buttons without setting the controller down on my lap or awkwardly holding it one-handed! Also the battery life will be shit-tastic on those. The Wii remotes are bad enough when you have the sound on (not that I know anyone who keeps the sound on because it was annoying XD) so a screen? Yeaaah no. :/ None of the game announcements really piqued my interest either. I mean, they're all things I can see myself getting when I eventually do get a 3DS but I was secretly hoping for something really awesome, or some release dates, to make me antsy to get a 3DS. But nope, I'm still gonna do my best to wait for the inevitable Lite, or at least a price drop. And I definitely want a Vita more than 3DS.
I was impressed with the Vita. I'd would seriously consider it if it had games that interested me, which it doesn't at the moment :c But I think it has fantastic potential. I think they did a good job on it. Could be my first Sony platform. Xbox 360, boring. Didn't care about any of the "new" announcements at all. 3DS, not much was shown that we didn't already know about... except for Luigi's Mansion! Since Luigi's Mansion (and the GCN) were supposed to be 3D the first time around, I think this sequel is a perfect match for the system and really show it off. I'm going to get a 3DS. There are games I want for it in the near-future. Like Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario, and Super Mario. Apparently all Mario titles. But nothing right *now*. OoT3D is tempting but doesn't cut it for me. But, Super Mario? I will buy that game on day one and a 3DS if I don't already have on by then. Given the Vita though, I wish a price drop and/or lite version would drop soon, but I know it won't happen. :\ Wii, it's dead. Play Skyward Sword and then that's all folks. Would have liked to have seen Skyward Sword. A new on-stage demo. A trailer during the conference instead of online afterward. Talk of progress on the game. Something. Anything. Wii U. I like the idea, but I hate the name and the controller. The controller bugs me so much. How do you hold that thing? I made a quick mockup of what I was expecting (not showing it, was made really quickly with copy/paste elements. It's the equivalent of the Homer car XD But message me if you want to see, I guess?), and hopefully by next E3 it looks more like that. It's seems too prototypey right now and I have no idea how I would hold the thing. Well, the beginning of the conference was great. All the Zelda anniversary and concert stuff. And then it was pretty boring after that. *has the sound turned on his Wiimotes to about the third bar and it lasts just as long as my 360 controllers. I think the WaveBird was my fastest battery drainer*
