All troops will be home from Iraq by the end of 2011. Years late, in my opinion, but it's good that we're finally getting out of there and letting the Iraqis start rebuilding their country and becoming self-sufficient. All US troops in Iraq will be home for the holidays, according to President Obama - the Iraqis wanted 5,000 US troops to remain for training but the US and Iraqi government couldn't reach an agreement over immunity.
It's a conflict we should never have gotten involved in. Iraqi opinion on our occupation was mixed, often negative, people took to the streets with guns to fight us and all these years later things still aren't great there. It also helped prolong the Afghan war, which is the real conflict we should be trying to end. The USSR couldn't crush a then smaller opposition from Afghan guerillas, we definately cannot with the numbers we have there. For a large bulk of the war there were a lot of British without basic body armor, a fair few died who wouldnt have if they had this, and if money wasnt been poured into Iraq it could and should of gone on actually arming our troops for 21st century combat. It's great news though that they're finally pulling the troops out over there. Big respect to all service men and women
