Have you played any games and then got struck with a sense of deja vu when you visited a similar area in real life? Be it a real place or just a similar feeling/environment? For me, I had completely forgotten I had even played The Conduit until I visited Washington, D.C. and entered their subway system. I was like, "woah I've been here before!". A part of The Conduit takes place in Washington's subway system and the layout and look of the specific station I was in was eerily similar. When I visited New York City I made a point to see some places from the Ghostbusters movies and the recent video game. For the most part, just a bunch of exteriors so not a big deal. But then I ended up at the New York Public Library and... well, it's also a level in the Ghostbusters video game. And it was freaky. As soon as I set foot in there, I knew my way around (for at least the first part of it since that was pretty much a replica) because I had been there so many times before in the game. Was a weird feeling.
Although not based on a real city, Paradise City from Burnout Paradise came to mind when I was in California. The observatory, the mountains, the naval yard. When I saw these in California I was like, "These look familiar...Paradise City from Burnout Paradise!"
I can't say that I have. The only place I've visited in a game that I've visited in real life is Washington D.C., which I played through in Modern Warfare 2. The game had such a limited portion of the city though, and none of the places I visited. Should be interesting when I finally get around to playing Fallout 3 though, since I think that has more of the traditional landmarks (though...slightly exploded).
I don't think I've ever played a game that uses a setting I've visited in real life. The closest feeling I get when it comes to this theme is any time I watch a film or something set in Italy, I'm always going "I totally climbed that building" or "...yeah, that's where I assassinated that one dude by jumping down from that ledge in the back of the shot". I think I'd get way too much weird déjà vu if I ever vacation there.
I know what you mean. I do intend on visiting Italy some day, but even now when I'm watching my food travel shows I get the same thing you just described XD
Yup. It's a very bizarre feeling. I recently saw a travel show that was about Venice and I had all these odd flashbacks to ACII. I kept thinking to myself, "I climbed this, I ran down this alleyway, I swam in this water..." Weird.
Yeah. "There was a feather on that ledge there! Or maybe a glyph? One of the two." "Erica what the heck are you talking about." I can't watch movies with my mom if they're set in Italy. I can't help blurting this stuff out. :(
