Gaming has come a long way from hitting a square back and forth, trying to get it past your opponent. In this progress, games have been created covering just about everything. From fighting aliens, rocking the stage in a band, to finding a device that shoots holes... not bullet holes, but, oh well, you get the picture. With all of the games that are out now, and all of the games in the past, it seems that games are reducing to just copy and paste versions of each other. Despite this, some gaming company always seems to put a twist on some old game and make it somewhat new and exciting. In other words, they make the game original and fresh. However, every time one of these games comes out, the following games can no longer be called original. With how many games are out today, it seems that original ideas are almost impossible to come by. Do you think it's possible to create a game surrounding a truly original idea? Are there some games that you would like to see that you haven't already?
As much as I don't really like a lot of indie games, I think that's where most of the creativity is going to come from now and in the future. Big publishers aren't going to take risks - they're going to create what they know will sell and play it incredibly safe. Games such as Brothers and Papers, Please prove that there's still room for innovation in the gaming industry, even now, and that there are ideas that haven't been explored.
I think it's entirely possible. Look at Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, and many other games released in the last five-ten years. There are always more ideas and always original concepts that can be made. Just look at fiction. New ideas are created even to this day that have not been covered already. There's always a new, unique idea out there.
