So. The latest title in the series for 3DS. What do you guys think so far? Are you excited? I'm really looking forward to it. The latest trailer really got me hyped!
The starters and legendaries look promising, but I'm going to reserve my hype considering the trend of the series lately. I'm really hoping they go in the opposite direction of gen 6 and add a bit more plot and challenge to the games. And I'm really glad they got rid of the chibi artstyle in favor of a bit more realistic proportions.
I'm really looking forward to it. Of course, I play mainly for the competitive side, so I'll get through the games and then start theory crafting on which pokemon will be really strong.
After the reveal of the full region, I'm kind of worried it'll turn out to be Hoenn 2.0 with all the water. I know it's based on Hawaii, but if over half the game is water, it's going to be kind of redundant. I'm mostly kind of disappointed that they left Kalos so unfinished. I know it was kind of a crappy region, but it had a lot of potential with the Zygarde forms, the dimensional back story that ORAS added, etc. I think they could have knocked it out of the park in a third version - X/Y always felt like kind of a beta test for something better.
I'm not entirely sure what to think of it yet, although after watching the E3 gameplay, they did add a lot of extremely useful features, especially to the battle interface. I've spent so much time having to check in my stats to see what is the most effective move in a current situation, so having it right at my fingertips is extremely welcoming. The games also look visually impressive and bolster much more than XYORAS ever did. I do hope that it comes with the ability to run better on the New Nintendo 3DS though, it might allow for 3D in double battles perhaps since it has extra RAM and more cores to work with.
So we've had a bunch of new Pokémon revealed in the last couple of days. Thoughts? I think they're some of the most exotic ones we've seen, which kind of fits with the tropical island feel of the region, although I'm unsure if I'm a fan of some of the designs. I do love the idea of the electric bugs though, with Charjabug being a potential extra battery for Vikavolt.
Yeah...I think I'm done with the main series of Pokemon games. I really don't feel like starting over again (e.g., completing the Pokedex again, getting all the TMs again, buying Life Orbs and other useful items from the Battle Tower/Frontier/Maison again). Gen 6 is where I tap out. I'm still open to spin-off games though (Pokemon Snap 2 where are you?!?)
Since the games have been out for over a month now, has everyone had the chance to play them? I beat Sun within just a few days and now I'm early in my Moon playthrough. I was really impressed at how much they changed up things - it's a breath of fresh air for the series but yet they didn't throw aside its identity. And I'm not feeling any fatigue even with playing through Moon so soon after Sun. Definitely the shot in the arm the series needed after the stale XY/ORAS, and it might be challenging Gen 4 as my favorite gen of Pokémon.
Even though I've had both since release, I'm pacing myself with them. About to face my final grand trial on Sun, and just reached Hau'oli City on Moon. I'm on track to beat the former sometime next week though, and then I'll poke around at some of the post-game stuff before shifting my focus to Moon. I don't know if I'd say they're my favorite games, but I'm definitely enjoying them more than I did Y. I struggled to get through that game, and actually took a break for a couple months before finishing up, and never really checking out the post-game. At least with Sun/Moon, I find that I enjoy exploring, and am genuinely curious about what the game has to offer next.
