Junichi Masuda, the director of Pokemon Black and White, has announced sequels: Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2. They will be released in June in Japan for the Nintendo DS this year. These two new Pokemon, which look like a hybrid of Kyurem/Zekrom and Kyurem/Reshiram are apparently the games' mascots. Who saw this coming?!
I don't think they're new Pokemon. I think they're just alternate forms for Kyurem...kind of like Rotom or Giratina. Anyway, I'm wondering how they're going to work the sequels. Will they pick up where B/W left off? Different protagonists or the same? Or will they just be Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum style upgrades of B/W? I guess we'll find out in the coming months. I'm also surprised that the US site has also announced these. We never get simultaneous announcements in Japan and North America. Makes me think that we'll be getting these sooner than we usually do - holiday maybe?
At first I thought these were the new Formes for Kyurem too, but on his Twitter account, Junichi Masuda tweeted "'Black Kyurem' and 'White Kyurem' are the names of new legendary Poke'mon!!" which oddly suggests they are two new Legendary Pokemon. Idk, maybe it just sounds like that to me. I think they are indeed sequels, a first for the main entries in the Pokemon series, as opposed to a new and improved version of Black and White like many people expected. If it is a direct sequel, does it just transfer everything you've done in Black and White (the Pokemon you have, your Pokedex, your Gym badges) over to Black 2 and White 2? So many questions!!!
But, Gen II is the sequel to Gen I. It continues the story on Team Rocket and you get to meet some of the old characters. Also, Before they came up with the final title.
I've gotta say, I didn't expect flat-out sequels, at least not two of them. I guess they weren't lying when they said there wouldn't be a Pokémon Grey. I just wish they had actually revealed more about the games themselves. Really, all we know is that the games revolve around Kyurem (And probably Zekrom/Reshiram), and will likely be a sort of sequel to the first set of Black/White games. I really don't know how they can do that, because as far as I remember, B/W didn't really lend themselves to a flat-out sequel. Regardless, I'm sure Game Freak can think of something. All in all, I'm excited to see what comes of this. :3 They could indeed be new Pokémon, although it seems unlikely. They could pull a Nidoran, but the only problem with that is that if Nidoran had been introduced in, say, Generation V, they wouldn't be two separate Pokémon. I guess we'll see within the next month or so. True, but as far as we know, B2/W2 is still a part of Generation V.
I think I remember the ending of Black and White hinting that although Ghetsis lost everything in the end, he will continue to follow through with his plans of taking over the world. So maybe Black 2 and White 2 are about that.
While it is far too soon to make any predictions or assumptions (IMO), all I think that if these ARE going to be sequels (and I believe they are), then I'm excited. I'm aware that Pokémon Gold and Silver were originally titled Pokémon 2, but not "Pokémon Gold 2 and Silver 2". One, that wouldn't have made sense, and two... I dunno. GS turned out to be sequels and had originally been titled "Pokémon 2", so I believe B2 and W2 are going to be sequels, and because of that I'm both optimistic and excited. Otherwise I'mma wait for some more information :)
And they're confirmed for fall 2012 in North America. Interesting...this is the first main-series Pokemon game since GS to release in the fall here. Should make for some nice holiday sales numbers.
Huh, wonder why they specifically chose this fall rather than early next year. Not that I'm complaining, I can't wait to play it.
