http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon,_Nobunaga's_Ambition_crossover_announced I am at a complete loss for words... I seriously doubt this will be released outside of Japan.
If it's Pokemon, I highly doubt Nintendo will keep it a JP-exclusive. People will buy the most mediocre game on the planet if it has "Pokemon" on it. Regardless, I've never really heard or read much about Nobunaga's Ambition, so I can't really be a judge here. It certainly looks...interesting though. Might have potential.
There are some games that are JP-exclusive, such as Battle & Get! Pokemon Typing DS. It was released on April 21st 2011, with no announced released dates for North America or Europe.
That's one of the few, though. I'd say that the only reason it hasn't made it overseas is because it requires a peripheral (which means the game would cost more), and since it's the only DS game that uses said peripheral, there wouldn't be much of a point in producing a lot of it. There are few people who'd want to buy the game, so couple with that and the high(er) price, and Nintnedo would make little, if any, money off of it outside of Japan.
I don't get it, what's this game about? The artwork looks really good though, I'll keep an eye out for this
It looks like it's more of a strategy RPG than anything. Which, if that's the case, it could be very promising. Really interested in finding out how they incorporate Pokemon into an SPRG.
The Nobunaga's Ambition games always involve the Warring States Era of Japanese history, basically the latter half of the 1500s. Oda Nobunaga was the most powerful warlord during this period and was well on the path toward uniting Japan under his military rule before he was murdered by his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide in 1582. Nobunaga is still considered a charismatic figure in Japan and a cornerstone of their history, and so many military strategy games take place during his conquest of Japan. The other characters in the OP picture: Top left and right: Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, rival warlords from the earlier Warring States period. Bottom left and right: Oichi (Nobunaga's sister) and Akechi Mitsuhide.
So there's some historical context to these games? That's pretty cool actually. How would Pokemon be factored in to a period set mil-strat game? That could be very cool.
Yup, they're about as historical as it gets. If you're ever interested in checking them out, a few Nobunaga's Ambition games have been released in English. There are a couple for NES and SNES, with the most recent being Rise to Power and Iron Triangle, both for PS2. I'm guessing that the military element is going to be removed for the Pokemon crossover and it'll mostly be a strategy title with some sim elements. Most of the characters in the game are dead by the end of the Warring States Era, many violently, so they have to change some stuff XD
