With the recent announcement of a new All-Stars Racing game, I figured now's as good a time as any to discuss the first game.

Has anybody here played the game before? I recently bought it on Steam when it was only $3.74, and I have to say, I love it. I dare say it's more fun than Mario Kart to me, though that may just be my inner Sonic fan speaking. :p Regardless, it does play well, and it's one of the better Mario Kart clones I've seen. The game looks great, and the music is typically good. My biggest complaint with the game is the lack of online multiplayer in the PC version (Which seems to be fixed in Transformed, which makes me happy) and the fact that all of the Super Monkey Ball stages are terribly designed. x3

Who's your favorite character to race as? Mine would be either Sonic or Shadow. Sonic races well, but Shadow is just too much of a badass for me to resist. :p He's always been one of my favorite Sonic characters.

I thought about picking this up from the Steam sale...until I read that the PC version doesn't have online play. Just wtf Sega. :|

But anyway, I've heard good things about the game, so I may pick it up on 360 if I find it stupidly cheap sometime.

The lack of online doesn't make much sense, but to be honest, I don't really mind it that much. From what I've heard, the console versions aren't exactly active nowadays either. :/

Yeah, but still. Especially with racing games, online is pretty important since they usually have crap single player. And if the SP is as frustrating as it can be in Mario Kart, I'm not sure how much it's worth it to get the game without any type of online multiplayer.

I find the single player of Mario Kart to be much better than the online multiplayer since so many people cheat either through techniques like snaking or just flat out cheating through hacks (I've encountered people who, when hit by a red shell for example, do not actually get hit and stumble, they just keep driving).

I think I'll end up purchasing it on the Xbox 360 once I get back. I haven't played a good Mario Kart-style racing game in quite a while so I think it'll be awesome to play it again.

Does anyone actually have it on Xbox? If so, what are the controls like?

They're pretty easy to grasp, from what I remember. Right trigger to accelerate, analog stick or d-pad to move left and right, X to use an item, left trigger to drift...
