[h2]Tales of VS[/h2] Hello! I've never done one of these before, and it's not really a traditional LP since I'm not talking over it (I'm so not witty enough for that) but... I'm translating it, so I should still get an A for effort. [h2]Background Information[/h2] Tales of VS is an escort game in the "Tales of" JRPG series. It's essentially Tales meets Super Smash Bros. It was never released outside of Japan, which actually kind of sucks because once you get past the learning curve of the controls (which I'm sure I exacerbated by not actually reading the ridiculous tutorials), it's really fun! I haven't even explored the whole thing yet and even up to the last story mode I played (I think there are 9?), I was still discovering little things that made the game easier. I was on the fence about it for a long time and then Play-Asia it on sale for $25 so I caved and bought it. I don't regret it at all! Especially when I learnt Jade & Anise had a story mode together. The story is pretty simple for this game, being a fighter and all. Basically, the source of energy in the world is given by the giant tree, Yggdrasil, but it only bears fruit (containing the mana, I suppose) once every three years. In order to decide who claims this fruit, an international "Yggdrasil Battle" is held, where each country sends its best warriors ("Cigrus") to enter the battle and win. Each pair of Cigrus has to collect 4 "Skuld" flags, which then merge to become a "Belldandy" flag, allowing them to enter the final stage of the tournament. If they win that battle, they obtain the "Urd" flag and get to receive the tree's fruit and make a wish. If you want more background info, the Wikipedia page is actually pretty helpful. The story mode I'm showing here is with Jade and Anise, both from Tales of the Abyss. They are my favourite two characters in Tales and I think they get along so well, so I was ecstatic when I found out they do the story mode together. Jade is a snarky, sarcastic bastard who's insanely smart and high up in the military. Anise is also a soldier (works for Jade in this game) and is also always looking for ways to get rich. She's just as snarky but tries to come off as sweet and adorable to most people she meets. [h2]Jade & Anise - Part 1 (VS Luke & Tear)[/h2] As I mentioned, I'm not talking in this or anything, so I'll use the space around it to rant and rave! I recorded this right off my PSP and it was actually kind of hard to get used to battling that way because I guess my computer's display lags it a bit while recording, so everything was a bit slowed down and I couldn't get used to that right away. :s So the fights (especially at first) are embarrassing. But I think I get better. 8D Just a note: these translations are not exact! My Japanese is very rusty (I haven't actually taken any classes in over 6 years now) and I'm doing this by transcribing everything and then translating as best I can. I'm also taking a bit of liberty with the lines, substituting stiff translations with a close match in English, so these aren't exact, but I like to think they're at least somewhat in character. (For the characters I'm familiar with, anyway!) There will probably be some spoilers for Tales of the Abyss! And quite possibly some other Tales games. Also make sure annotations are turned on to see subs. ♥ I miiiight go ahead and do the whole series if there's interest (I don't think it's been done before), but for now, enjoy my two favourite characters. ♥ Will keep this updated. :)
This is pretty neat. VS looked pretty awesome, but I don't think I'll ever get to play it, so this is the next best thing, I suppose. The translations seem pretty good so far, I'd love to see more. ^^
Omg totally forgot I was posting these up. I'm pretty ahead so I'm just gonna catch myself up in this post so that next time(s) I post, it'll be as I update on Youtube too. Part 2 Omg unspoken skit. ;_; I think I translated this okay. I don't have much experience with Senel since I only ever got a few hours into ToL. Part 3 & 4 Aaaand enter more characters I've never interacted with outside this game. And more other-game-plots that confuse me greatly. :[ But I think I got it. Looooved the part with Yuri and Farah though, partially because I know the characters well (finally!) and also because the rivalry between Farah & Anise and Jade & Yuri amuses me. Part 5 I don't understand why everyone likes Leon so much. iirc he's constantly topping the character polls every year. I find him really boring. Part 6 Just translated this this afternoon. Harold terrified me at first because I didn't know her and thought she was supposed to be male and it was very off-putting. :( Haven't played Destiny/2 so I'm not sure if my translations with the Swordian/Lens stuff is accurate. God I really need to play those games. Okay now this is all caught up. I need to make myself sit down and translate more often. I've transliterated up to part 10 but procrastinate on the translating. xD;
I found Leon boring and Harold terrifying too, so you're not alone. :( The worst part is...some of these translations sound JUST LIKE YOU, even though you're translating all the hearts and stuff straight from the subtitles. XD
I was obsessed with ToA for years and these were my two favourite characters... I'd honestly be a little surprised if I didn't pick up any of their speech patterns at all in that time. xD; Yay, characters I know and love. :'D And a plot I wasn't totally lost on. I liked this one. In which Mighty Kongman terrifies me and Jade makes puns that I grr at because I suck at puns in my own language, nevermind another. And an optional (and unvoiced) skit about Phillia losing her glasses. I actually kind of liked this one, haha. Jade is such a jerk.
