As the DS's lifespan is winding down, let's look back on its four incarnations: the DS (phat), DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL. Which ones did you own, and which was your favorite? I own all but the XL. The Lite is great for being able to play GBA games, but overall I prefer playing DS games on my DSi. The screen is much more vibrant and it feels so much better in your hands than the Lite.
I only own the Phat and Lite but have briefly experienced the DSi XL. I enjoyed the larger screens but I guess my favourite incarnation would have to be the Lite as it's the one I used the most.
I haven't played the DSi XL, but I'd say it's either the Lite or DSi. The only things I don't like about the DSi are the facts that it doesn't have a GBA slot, and the D-Pad is horrendous.
Well, I got my DSi used, so it may just be that the person who owned it before me abused the D-Pad x3; But I liked how the D-Pad on the DS Lite was raised a little, making it easy to use not-cardinal directions. On my DSi, it was hard for me to play Golden Sun: Dark Dawn with the D-Pad, so I switched to using the touch screen really quickly.
I found diagonals really hard to execute on the Lite's d-pad, and I didn't like the overall mushiness of the buttons. I like the clickiness of the DSi's buttons, and how the d-pad is lower and more secure (it's floaty in the DS Lite).
I only have the Phat and Lite. And my Lite wins because it's the Zelda skinned one. Gold with a Triforce emblem Also it's better than the Phat in general.
I used to have the Zelda DS Lite, but I gave it to my sister for Christmas a year after I got it. Bad decision, especially because she ended up leaving it in the rain. .-.
I've got a DS, DS Lite, and a DSi. All of them (except the Phat, maybe) have gotten pretty extensive use by now, despite my only having a DSi for a few months. My favourite by far is my DS Lite. It's smaller, so it fits in my hand easier (I'm tiny ;, the buttons don't make a clicking noise when I use them, and they're easier to press. Maybe it's more that I've broken in my DS Lite, but I just prefer it. The only reason I got a DSi was because my Lite was overused and buttons were failing... and I love the pink it came in moreso than any other Lite colour. That and I've heard they break less easily than the Lite. Also the DSi's buttons require a tad more force to be pushed down, which is fine for normal people but when you have carpal tunnel (or the beginning of it, repetitive stress syndrome at least), it can actually be really aggravating after a while. :/ So, Lite's my favourite.
The XL will be my favorite when it's $100 and I can finally be bothered to buy one. Hope I can get a maroon one, it's the shade of the interior upholstery of an old person's car from the 80s :q For now, though, the Lite is my fave. The Phat feels better in my hands and is super-durable, but the screen is just so horribly dim.
