This was my first handheld and probably my favourite. I used to play my Pokemon Yellow on my green Gameboy color all the time. The great thing is that it's about 11 years old and it still plays perfectly whenever I turn it on. It's amazing to see how we've progressed from this little, barely-coloured screen to dual-screen 3D HD large screen devices today. I miss the old days.
The GBC was my first system. I got it for Christmas in 1999 and I played it all the time. I think it's stored away somewhere now, but last I checked it still worked. Mostly the only things I played back then were Pokemon games though. Still, the GBC had a great library of games, and many are still worth playing today. I think the GBA and DS have outdone it though.
It was the first console I had that was entirely mine :) I got mine when I Was 5 or 6 I think? My brother had a N64 which I could play some, but not as often as I wanted. But one day after report cards my parents went and got me one of the see-through purple ones with Pokemon Pinball and Pokemon Blue
I had a Gameboy Color and I loved it! It was the see through purple color and I spent hours playing and beating all of the Pokemon games. I didn't really play anything besides that though.
I got my Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64 on the same Christmas morning in 1998. My brother and I got Pokémon Red and Blue along with it. Not our first video game system though, nor our first Game Boy. We already had a NES, SuperNES, and original Game Boy by this point.
Yeah I find they seem to be quite durable. Mine's about 11 years old and still works perfectly whenever I turn it on. I too only played Pokemon games. I think the only five games I have are Pokemon Yellow, Blue, Red, Gold and Silver. It's true that the newer systems might be quicker and have better graphics, etc., but they can't replace that classic feel of the Gameboy Color.
My first GB was a Pocket but I eventually upgraded to a Color just for Pokemon Trading Card Game. In fact, I don't think I ever purchased any color-capable GB games other than all subsequent Pokemon releases. I know that we're all pretty nostalgic about the Game Boy here probably, but after accumulating over 150 GB carts in the past couple of years and playing a good number of them, I feel like the GB has the most skewed ratio of crap to good games of any console. There are scant few things other than Pokemon that still hold up on the system, even with hundreds and hundreds of games released for it.
I actually didn't have one! I started with a GB Pocket, and skipped over Color, to Advance/SP. I missed out on some good games in that period between, but I managed to nab some GBC games like Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages etc, and thankfully have been able to play them on my SP
