Same. XD I know I'll be picking it up at some point next year anyway. But... hopefully the price drops by then
It's having a lot of issues, but I'm thinking most of them are just launch problems (servers getting hammered, etc.) But...your Nintendo Network ID is tied to one console. You can't sign in on a friend's console with it, or transfer it to a new Wii U, or really do anything with it outside your own Wii U. I don't think Nintendo quite grasps the point of an account system. :|
I only see the ID thing as a deal breaker, if you really can't transfer it to a new unit. But not sining in somewhere else... okay. I've never logged in on another 360 console that wasn't my own
....how is this any different? ; If you could sign in on your account on another console, how's that any different from a transfer? Regardless, neither is available and that is pretty awful to me. Assuming your purchases are tied to your Wii U account, that means that if your Wii U bricks or otherwise needs to be replaced, reformatted, etc.... your purchases are gone. The Wii was the same way and it's why I never really bought anything for it online. There was no guarantee that the items I spent money on could always be played. But even bar that... I move my accounts around on systems all the time. My PS3 is bricked but I can still use and access ALL of my games: you can transfer your account to any PS3 and access anything you own. It's wonderful. And my 360 account? I don't even have it "installed" on any 360 in this house (there are three, technically). I keep my profile on a USB stick so I can sign in and play on any console in an instant. I can still access my content on the 360 assigned to me and I can change the master 360 once a year if need be, iirc. I understand that not everyone uses this feature but it's so indispensable to me. I wouldn't enjoy my time with the PS3/360 nearly as much if I had to make new accounts any time I played on a friend's or had to replace a console. The Wii U ID not being an awful friend code for each game is an improvement but Nintendo still doesn't seem to get how it should despite two other companies setting a good example for... what... a decade now?
Basically it sounds like they thought people wanted accounts so they didn't have to send friend codes. The only real improvements are that you have an actual name and the person you add to your friends list automatically gets a friend request now. :/
Well, I guess that's still a massive improvement but almost literally anything is a massive improvement over FCs.
It is the same thing XD But, I don't know... the context makes a difference for me. Something I might use versus something I won't use. On the Wii, they're kinda gone but not. Nintendo will restore all your Wii Shop content if you send it in. It is a hassle, but you are guaranteed that the content is there. That was a really stupid method, and I'd like them to move beyond that too. Even if they don't enable signing in on multiple consoles, Nintendo has said Wii U to Wii U transfer is likely in a future software update Not saying having something more robust like the 360 and PS3 (or heck, even Steam since that's not tied to one PC) is bad. It'd be great if Nintendo did that, and they should. It just isn't a deal breaker for me, because I won't use it personally.
For those who haven't heard, I got one on Friday. So far, I'm really enjoying it. I only have Nintendo Land, but it's actually more fun than I expected - a good show of the GamePad's features, and it's more fun than Wii Sports was despite maybe not having the mass-market appeal. The menus are a bit sluggish, but it's nowhere near as bad as the gaming media are making it out to be, and Nintendo is apparently addressing the issue in a firmware update. The GamePad is really comfortable. My only complaint is the analog sticks are going to take some getting used to, but Nintendo has always had odd analog sticks. The transition is seamless between screen and Gamepad, for the most part. Miiverse has a LOT of potential, despite being heavily moderated. There's really nothing like it on any other system. I'm sure I'll have more impressions as time goes on. I want to pick up another game for it - leaning toward Darksiders II, but I can't justify spending $60 on it when it's been available for $30 on other consoles and as low as $15 on PC.
Honestly, I wouldn't support any port that's selling at full price when it's that cheap anywhere else. It just sends the message that you're willing to buy really old games at a premium for (presumably) minimal add-ons on a new console. :/
