It might be old as hell, but it's also fun as hell, if you ask me. Anyone here own this game or played it before? I recently got it on the 3DS eShop thanks to Club Nintendo. I'm actually pretty entertained by it; while it's a very different Metroid, it still feels like, well, Metroid. The exploration is a lot more linear than in other games, but the core gameplay is still the same. I also think it looks pretty good for a Game Boy game, although I wish that Nintendo hadn't canceled the DX version that would've added color. Right now, I think I have about 26 Metroids left to kill. I just killed my first Gamma Metroid.
I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I've never played a 2D Metroid game. I've always wanted to play Fusion and Zero Mission (since apparently the NES version is near-unplayable nowadays) but never really gave Metroid II much thought.
As a fan of the Metroid series, don't bother with the original NES game-- not only is it pretty outdated, but Zero Mission just plays so much better. Anyway, yes, you should be ashamed. >:I I'd say start with Zero Mission. It's pretty good.
I adore Zero Mission. One of my favourite games. I've played Return of Samus, but I didn't finish it. I was playing it for the first time last year. I cleared out every Metroid I could find. I spent hours upon hours trying to find more so the next area would unlock, but I couldn't find any. I have no idea if it glitched or if I really couldn't find anymore for some reason.
So I think I'm going to attempt my first 2D Metroid in May when Super Metroid is on sale on Wii U VC for 30 cents. I've always wanted to play it since it's apparently one of the best games ever, so...check back in May and we'll see what happens!
It's fun! I've never finished it, but I like what I've played, especially after playing Zero Mission. It's fun to see how Zebes changes in the games.
Metroid 2 was my first GameBoy game and I remember it being the absolute tits. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
