Well, it is the costumes, and more. Everything is overpriced, and a lot of it is flat-out pointless and cheap. You can pay to go ten levels higher, and one costume is about $4. They even made it to where you can pay money to automatically unlock the titles that give you the Vesperia costumes, which can already be unlocked in-game (Granted, it takes time to do so and can be difficult, but it's far from impossible). Granted, that isn't a bad thing, but the pricing for it is ridiculous.
Yeah, I don't mind that at all. So long as they aren't making me pay for content that should have been in the game but isn't, I'm usually pretty easy-going. None of those things are necessary so if people want them, they can pay the price. I mean, I'd like costumes to be a lot cheaper, but I could live with that. It's when RPGs start throwing story into DLC when I get worried. I hate what's going on with FFXIII-2 and how its ending is probably only going to be revealed in DLC. That's not cool and I could only forgive that (maybe) if they made it free, but I imagine they'll want a fair bit for it. At least costumes, and to a lesser extent weapons, won't affect the finished product that I play if I don't buy them.
That's the trend now. Mass Effect 3 starts up after post-game DLC for Mass Effect 2, not from the on-disc ending. The events of the DLC are mentioned a fair bit during the beginning of three and if you didn't download it, you'll be a little confused. So, I see it as ME2's proper ending being DLC. And now ME3 is getting the downloadable ending; but thankfully free this time. And Prince of Persia also had a DLC ending. I hope it doesn't increase
Yeah, it's nothing big in terms of story but it confuses you if you didn't play the Arrival DLC for ME2 (which I didn't). Spoiler I met an alien and he was like, "Shepard!!! You killed 300,000 of my people!" I read this and I was like, "What!?! When did I do that?"
I like DLC when it's an additional project as opposed to something that should have been in the game (and a lot of the time is still on the disc) but is then released later just to make more $$$.
DLC is good if done right. Instances where content was being developed prior to the game's release and could have been on the disc itself but instead was made DLC is obviously wrong and greedy. Where DLC truly shines I think is with music games. Purchasing albums and individual songs after the game's release makes sense since the amount of content is seemingly endless. Music is constantly being made and, as a result, can continuously be translated into games Rock Band and Guitar Hero. The DLC isn't mandatory because there is no story. If you like the song/album, purchase it. If not, don't. Now if only there would be more DLC for The Beatles: Rock Band
Okay, now that I've started playing ToGf and realized how much I hate most of the default costumes, I agree with you on the overpriced-ness of it all. XD; Ouch.
Some DLC is good. Generally Bethesda knows how to make and release DLC of the highest quality. Not many other companies do. Call of Duty map packs for $15 or whatever is outrageous. I have never bought one of those. I've bought Fallout DLC and I will buy Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC. I got the GTA IV expansions (Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and Damned). But other than that, you can't convince me to get much.
