Not all that interested yet until Paper Mario, Mario Kart, and Super Mario 3DS are out. OoT 3D is a huge missed opportunity.
Well, at the moment it looks like a port, with better visuals (only on environments and Link though), and in 3D. Ocarina of Time is a big deal. As is Super Mario 64. These are important titles in Nintendo's history. And when Super Mario 64 hit the DS, they did a pretty good job. Super Mario 64 DS had... more playable characters, new abilities, more missions in each world, 30 more Power Stars to collect, and the Super Mushroom power up, in addition to better graphics (which were a much more drastic jump from the original N64 game than we're seeing with OoT3D). Right now, based on what Nintendo has shown, OoT 3D has OoT in 3D and Master Quest in 3D, (with a mirrored overworld for some reason), with better graphics (that don't apply to NPCs or enemies, only Link and environments). OoT has a lot of content that was left on the cutting room floor and this would have been a perfect opportunity to include it. Even if not the cut-stuff, something more like Super Mario 64 DS did would be nice. Maybe there is additional content? I hope so. Nintendo hasn't said anything to indicate that though.
I will probably get the 3DS once the major titles (i.e. Paper Mario, Mario Kart, etc) are released. OoT 3D does not interest me at all since I've played it numerous times already, just got 100% completion in Master Quest for the first time last summer, and the 3D and textural updates are not major selling points for me.
As opposed to SM64DS, OoT3DS is probably a more faithful adaptation to let more people experience the original game exactly as it was. We've now reached a point where Nintendo can actually target a very large group of people who were not old enough to play an N64 - that's a big deal, and perhaps they prefer to just share an 'ageless' experience rather than appeal (again) to those who've played it already. Although I do agree with you on the fact that the game could be looking a lot better. :[
But, beyond it's N64 release, it's had two GCN releases and it's on the Virtual Console. If there's an audience for a faithful adaptation, go to the Virtual Console.
At the same time, OoT is a game that adding anything could possibly disrupt it and make it less...great. The original game is pretty much as close to perfection as any game has ever come - SM64, while timeless as well, had plenty of room for improvement, and plus it's more "broken up" than OoT is - they really didn't have to worry about breaking up pacing or interrupting a story, because it was pretty much a bunch of segmented disconnected levels/worlds. Not to mention, I personally think OoT 3D's quality would suffer if they added bonus gimmick dungeons, or new items, or other elements that would break up the pacing of the game. Face it, in most remakes/ports, the added content is inferior to the content already there. I wouldn't want OoT tarnished with anything that doesn't match the quality of the original game. I do agree they could have spruced the graphics up a little more than they have, but the improvement is really noticeable already in the screenshots, and the game runs a lot smoother than it did on the N64 from the videos we've seen.
But again, that it runs smoother than it did on the N64 is nothing special since it runs smoother on the GCN and on the VC to begin with. I agree though. New content may tarnish it. SM64DS had a lot of good new stuff, but at the same time it had a lot of gimmicky stuff, like the mini-games and the very abrupt division of Power Stars among playable characters. However, OoT did have a few dungeons cut due to time constraints. These were later supposed to show up in the expanded 64DD version of the game, but that project was abandoned. That cut content (like an expanded Ice Cavern, possibly an Ice Temple, or an actual Light Temple to explore) would have been welcomed, I think. Not new and gimmicky content, but ideas and concepts that were conceived when the game was developed but had to be cut.
The only addition to SM64 that I liked/paid any attention to were the minigames and they were pointless since I think the same set was included on another game. (I can't remember which one now though.) Adding anything to OOT would just be weeeeird. Like Mork said, it would either break up the pacing or else they'd have to toss it on as a typical RPG "after you beat the game" sort of thing and I never go back to those. :P
