Days has very little (if anything) to do with 3D. There's only one or two cutscenes at the end that won't make sense 100% without it.

Did you see the secret ending of Re:Coded? (Not just the ending cutscenes, but the one you had to do partial completion for.) I think that one explains Sora and Riku's test a little bit and it moreso than any actual part of Coded's plot is relevant to 3D.

Seriously (Re:)Coded was the most pointless game in the timeline for so many reasons.

Eh, I know, it's just nice to get the full story for the series. :P

Yeah, I watched it, but it's still a bit weird to me. I'll get used to it over time.

    I heard it was basically a KH1 rehash. :P

Uh-huh. In a series that did not need any more KH1 rehashes. :( With absolutely awful gameplay to boot!

I'm glad it didn't hurt interest in KH3D though. When Re:Coded broke the battle system from BBS, I was worried people would hate it and disregard anything else that used that battle system. Not so, luckily. (If it had been me and that had been my first attempt at the new battle system, I probably wouldn't have imported 3D haha.)

How'd they break the gameplay? I heard that Re:coded was an alright translation of the BbS gameplay with a bit of TWEwY thrown in, though I'm not sure what that last part is about. I thought just the story sucked.

I much preferred BbS's command system to 3D's, so I can't imagine re:Coded's being more stripped down. I do know that they messed with the gameplay a lot in general though...like one of the worlds is entirely turn-based, and I think there are some shooter levels too. It sounds really odd and out-of-place. But I've never really been too eager to try re:Coded.

Only one word was "entirely" mesed with, iirc. (And the turn-based stuff, while hard, was probably the only formula change that didn't suck.) Everything else, the change only came in during the boss fights.

As for the command system, it was okay. It was an improvment in control over Days's battle system (sometimes) if only becaue it handled better given the lessened amount of buttons compared to the original PS2 games which Days tried to emulate. It's tolerable only if you've never played BBS (or, now, 3D) but if you have, it just pales so much in comparison. I try to block the memory of this game from my mind so I honestly don't remember many details about the game... but pretty much everything was frustrating. The battle system really needs both a direction pad and a D-pad which the DS was lacking so even in the area of basic controls it was already kinda doomed from the start. Factor in that command synthesis wasn't as good and abilities were kinda weird (not as fleshed out as the ability boards tied to monsters in 3D) and it just... fell pretty flat. Only good part was an item/keyblade/ability (I forget what) you could get in the endgame that reduced your HP to two but would let you kill low-level Heartless in one shot.
