    Nintendo of America has become increasingly mismanaged over the last few years. I seriously can't even begin to understand their harebrained decisions - even NoE has improved dramatically (for the most part...then they pull something like the Kirby delay this year) but NoA has increasingly elicited "wtf"s from me.

    Nintendo in general needs new management, and I'm not necessarily talking about Iwata. I think he's more forward thinking than people give him credit for, but he's also held back by an old, conservative, set-in-their-ways board of directors that refuse to accept progress and allow Nintendo to compete in the current games market. But that's a rant for another thread.

    Creating artificial demand really doesn't benefit them in any way though, so I don't understand why they continue to do it. I'd buy that Majora's Mask 3DS in a heartbeat, but they're not allowing me to, and I'm sure there are a ton of other fans who feel the same way. They're pretty much saying that they don't want to make a sale to us.

    Saw this today. Seems appropriate:

    Nintendo of America was a fantastically managed, marketing behemoth under Arakawa and was surprisingly independent from Yamauchi despite family ties. I like Reggie as... a mascot? As president and COO though? No.

    Yamauchi saw the tide turning in the industry between the N64 and the GCN and appointed Iwata for that forward-thinkingness. The board however, are Yamauchi stalwarts, and their influence has reached NoA as well - especially following the somewhat recent restructuring. NoA's lost its former autonomy. I don't know why they treat this market so different though. It almost feels like we get ripped off because they sell worse here? Like a self-fulfilling prophecy

    Technically Reggie isn't even in charge of NoA. Iwata became CEO of NoA in 2013 after Kimishima got promoted, so he calls the shots. Reggie is pretty much just a mouthpiece at this point.

    New 3DS? I like it. Buying one? Later.

    Honestly I need to save up for some other things, but I would like to have another 3DS for playing. I'm gonna shelf my launch 3DS since it's in REALLY good shape. (I hope I kept the box. hmm...)

    I'm sorry glow-in-the-dark Boos, my heart now belongs to a different faceplate I will never have.

    Check out this thing of beauty (on the right)

    That is so subtle and tasteful and wonderful and WHY CAN'T I HAVE THIS, NINTENDO!? ;____;

    I love both of those. Nintendo please. ;;

    This just makes me even more pissed that we're not getting the regular N3DS here. The XL is just inferior in pretty much every single way...seriously, you could make money on selling faceplates, Nintendo! Do you not like money?

    Just a little update on the shortages bit... Nintendo says a "west coast port strike" is the cause for North American shortages of amiibo and New Nintendo 3DS XLs.

    They're going to be importing amiibos from Australia/New Zealand now and changing the packaging to compensate. Nothing about how to rectify the New 3DS issues yet though

    Somehow I highly doubt there are more Majora XLs sitting on a ship off the Pacific coast. Maybe regular ones.

    That said, why is this suddenly being blamed for the Amiibo issues, when they've come right out and said that they intentionally limited several of them (Villager, Marth, etc.)?

    I don't understand how rerouting stock from Australia will help. Wouldn't they still have to take the same sea route and get stopped in the same ports?? If not, why is shipping via air and then repackaging more cost-effective than just shipping via air straight from China? (I assume everything is made in China... although I am not actually with my Pikachu amiibo to check its "Made in ~" stamp.)

    Yeah, I assume that the MM N3DSes aren't included in this, but I have definitely heard of people having trouble finding stock of N3DS in the first place... I know the day MHU4 came out, people were struggling to find N3DSes in my city. So if there's a shortage of them, I wouldn't be surprised.

    The low print run of the initial Amiibos is probably unrelated, though. I feel like even Nintendo didn't expect how popular they'd be and simply didn't make enough of the ones they didn't think would be as popular. (And let's be honest, Villager and Marth and whatnot will never match the popularity of Mario or Link no matter how many are manufactured.) When they first announced them, I thought Nintendo was crazy because no way would a product like that ever really take off. Naturally, several months later, of course I spend a minimum of 5 minutes every single day thinking "can I preorder Lucina yet??? I don't want her to sell out......." But those first Amiibos of the non-flagship series, I'm not surprised that they didn't make a whole lot of them to begin with and had no intention of making more. The more recent Amiibos that have sold out, I can understand chalking up to the port strike. I've seen photos of shelves and displays in Pacific-region stores that have plenty of the recent wave that you can't find anywhere here in North America, so it's very believable to me that our region is having a problem with literally getting them to the shelves.

    I don't get why Nintendo won't do another run of the early waves though. Have they commented on it since that first "nah, no more will be made"?? It's so dumb that they would see how popular Amiibos have gotten and would still refuse to make more. If they're still saying no, I just... I just don't understand Nintendo's business policies. At all. Wtf.

    N3DS is definitely hard to find. I've only seen one since they came out, and it was in my small-town-in-the-middle-of-nowhere Walmart. Granted, I've been snowed in all week and haven't really been anywhere since Monday, but from all the reports I've read they're incredibly hard to find.

    And in the last Direct, they said that they would be doing reprints of the Fire Emblem Amiibo since they're compatible with Code Name STEAM, so we'll at least see more Marth and Ike. For the others, they're planning on releasing them in card form, which is disappointing to say the least.

    I just don't see what they get out of limiting supplies so much. The demand is out there, but the loyal fans that would buy their products are getting shafted and the only people that are benefiting from their policies are the scalpers.
