Personally, I don't think the number of Pokemon will exceed 999. If it does, then yes there will be too many Pokemon.
Yeah. I think that it might be a good idea for them to just add a few new ones with each generation. No more than 100 per generation or so.
I cannot wait. I watched the broadcast as it aired and I'm lucky I was on my own in the house, I literally yelped with excitement about it. Everything looks amazing about it. Literally, everything (those legendary Pokemon- now named Xerneas and Yveltal- look awesome, ESPECIALLY Yveltal). One thing- I'm wary of the battle cameras, that seems to be similar/the same style as Stadium. It's 3D, which is awesome, I know, but I liked that until now, we had our Pokemon the left side of the screen and the opponents were top right- I like the idea of looking over my Pokemon's shoulder at the foe. That's a really small, nitpicky thing, so.. aye. :3 I just can't wait to play it. And I'm so surprised it's a worldwide release, as is everyone else, I guess.
I'm a little late into the topic, as I've only watched the video today, however I have to say that I'm impressed. It looks fantastic, the game play seems quite fun and I'm really impressed. I don't have a 3DS yet and I'm prioritising building a new gaming PC, however once I've finished raising funds for it, I'll look into purchasing the 3DS and Pokémon Y. Let's just hope it isn't as disappointing as the 5th generation, eh?
Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a 3DS soon. I'm really impressed by what was shown when the video was released. The battles especially have me excited. I love the starters, the mascots are probably my favorite since Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and just the overall feel gives me a good vibe. I agree, I'm just hoping this generation turns out better than last, because I also thought Black and White were big disappointments. It gave us some great new features and a handful of nice new Pokémon, but overall, it just didn't live up to its hype. X and Y are looking to be much more promising though.
I really like the visuals in battle--I was so worried when I saw everyone on twitter talking about Pokemon's switch to 3D but the Pokemon look so tasteful! The cel-shading is really nice and I'm so excited for battles to look that pretty. I always thought 2D sprites had a certain charm that were wonderful but that charm pretty much left entirely in gen 5 so they could artificially shift/tween/animate the sprites to make the Pokemon move. (And that was nice except that it just looked so unnatural and jarred.) So for it to get some of its charm back in a new way... I'm happy! But ugh the overworld looks pretty generic and not all that much better than a DS game. :s Maybe I need to see more of it but I wasn't very impressed. I kind of wish they'd toned it down or something. I can't even pinpoint what bugs me about it but... oh well. I'm fine with the starters. None of them reeeally jump out at me past the fox but I don't outright dislike any of them. They're all cute for the first time in a while for me so I'm happy about that. Really, REALLY hope the third (yes I'm already talking about that) is Pokemon Z so that it references a 3D graph on the axes x, y, and z. ♥ Probably the best announcement is the worldwide release, though. I've been waiting for them to do this with Pokemon for YEARS and I'm glad they've finally worked out the logistics of it. Although, it doesn't help me much because I don't have an English 3DS so now I don't know if I should import or only play it when I can borrow my roommate's 3DS... Well, I have nearly a year to think about it.
I... did not word that as intended, haha. I meant the graphics seem really generic. They don't stand out to me as obviously 3DS. I've seen what it's capable of and something about the art direction they chose and the resolution or... or something... just feels really off to me. I'll need to see more but everything I've seen from the overworld looks like it could've been done in a late-gen DS title. :s
I agree with that. I know Nintendo said they've pushed the 3DS to its limits, but I don't buy it. Other games look better. It also be a shame if its already clocked out so early XD But, visually it reminds of the Final Fantasy III and IV remakes on the DS
It looks a lot like what I remember of one of the DS Dragon Quest titles. Didn't play much but the models looked much the same. :/ Dragon Quest Monsters, another 3DS game I have, has similar visuals to the Pokemon X and Y versions and it looks so much better in comparison. A much blander overworld but the models are more detailed and it's obvious that more can be done with the 3DS than is being accomplished with X/Y.
