I finally saw Avengers today and it wasn't bad. I haven't seen ANY of the movies for the characters in it so I was really confused in the beginning and I thought the set-up took forever but I was entertained pretty much the whole way through. I don't think it lived up to all the hype it has on the internet, but I'm not really a huge fan of super hero movies or comic books in general. I also couldn't help but laugh EVERY time Captain America was on screen because I'm really not used to such blatant patriotism. It was a little ridiculous. Every time he'd swoop in and save the day, I'd always expect the backdrop to change to an American flag billowing in the background with eagles swooping everywhere and the national anthem blaring. :| Was a little disappointed it never happened. (But maybe I have to go watch his actual movie for that?) I really wanna see Iron Man now though. *u* He was my favourite.
Watch the first Iron Man. It is terrific. Basically just Downey Jr. being snarky for two hours and it is awesome. Also, just a really good movie to begin with. Anyway, I just saw this today too. Aside from Iron Man, I am not familiar with the other characters at all aside from commercials. Black Widow I guess since she's in Iron Man 2. And Hulk because... everybody knows Hulk. But Thor and Loki were so damn goofy! I could not stand Captain America at all. For basically what you said. It took a long time to get going. I was generally uninterested for the first half of it. And in the beginning with all the geek speak and focus on Captain America, I was sitting there going "Oh, this is going to be a loooong movie". But then it picked it up. It was a fun little diversion for a Sunday afternoon. I liked the little bits of humour sprinkled throughout. And now I need July to happen for Batman. I need my superhero movies to be a little bit... smarter. Most important though, it is a good excuse to go out and get some shawarma.
I have never actually had shawarma before! But it was the first thing we did immediately after exiting the theatre. XD; Pretty much agreeing on all points and am now going to search for the Iron Man movie because you have made it sound amazing. n_n
Shawarma was great, Iron Man was okay. Tony Stark was not the snarky bastard he was in Avengers. :( He was barely even a jerk. Disappointment.
I've got to watch it again then. Seeing the first one, then the second, then Avengers... if there was any change in his character I guess it came out as more gradual that way and I didn't notice. I remember him being all snark though o.o ...once he free again and in Iron-Man mode. Not too much snark while imprisoned. *thinks* Probably? I liked it because I went pretty much just to hear really really really loud Beatles music in surround sound. Mission accomplished. But yeah that was a damn trippy movie that would have worked a lot better if I were on something while watching it. lol
I went and saw The Avengers for the fifth time last night because I read on IMDb that there's a scene after the credits which is basically the Avengers sitting around a table in silence, eating shawarma. I REALLY WANTED TO SEE THAT SO BAD but we waited til the end of the credits (severely pissing off the movie attendant that wanted to go home) and there was NOTHING. So annoyed.
