Never need. But desire = necessity, in this instance. I have little desire to get the Wii U right now as the support/games are lacking, which worries me and keeps me from any purchase. :(
Just purchased the Wii U Mario Kart 8 Bundle. Wouldn't have otherwise if I didn't get it for half-price. n_n;; Anyway... My first impressions so far is that I'm fairly pleased with my purchase! Of course, that's probably not saying much, given that I haven't gotten a new console ever since I've received my Wii as a gift from my mother years and years ago, so I suppose that was a nice change of pace. Initiall, I was only sort of bothered by the lack of the expansive library, but given that I missed a lot of Wii games that I probably should've gone and played previously, it really doesn't bother me all that much. Assuming that the Wii U offers backwards compatibility (haven't really checked or anything really, but it should), then I'll be fine playing my regular Wii games + Wind Waker HD and MK8. That's enough to keep me entertained for a while, but that's me, personally.
I'm very picky about what I spend my money on, and that especially goes for big purchases like video game systems. If I'm going to be spending that much money, I have to know that the game library I'm now putting myself into is a good one. That means a lot of variety and unique ideas. Unfortunately, in this time of first person shooters, there haven't been any ideas that really jump out to me, as they all seem like they copy and pasted each other with one or two quirks to call the game somewhat original. So, I'm going to be watching E3 to see if I'm going to be getting any new consoles.
I caved on the Wii U a few weeks ago thanks to the Mario Kart 8 hype and I am so pleased with my purchase. Loving the three (four) games I have: Mario Kart 8, Wind Waker HD, and ZombiU (NintendoLand). Lots of variety in my gaming right now and I've got something for any mood. Also NintendoLand is a blast with friends. Loved the Mario Chase game. :P
Loving the Wii U love in here. It's becoming a fantastic system and I really hope that people start giving it the attention it deserves. I keep trying to convince myself to buy a PS4 or Xbox One but I can't justify the purchase based on their game libraries, and it really doesn't look like we'll be seeing anything noteworthy until 2015 anyway. The traditional "You need it for 4P coverage!" excuse hasn't worked this time, and the idea of rewarding myself for finally doing my master's recital (which has been 2-3 years in the making) and getting a A on it hasn't done it either. And the fact that I gave up my new 40" 1080p TV doesn't make me any more inclined to get one either, lmao.
You bought the better system and you just can't make yourself feel guilty for doing that :P Coming off of E3.... I don't know. Xbox One and PS4 did nothing for me. And I still want a PS3 more than I want a PS4
Geoff bought a PS4. Shame on him. Still loving my Wii U, but the playing of it has died down some. :/ I beat ZombiU and I really need to get my hands on a new game!
As someone who has all three current-gen consoles now, I can honestly say that the PS4 is likely going to be my go-to console for this gen. The Xbox One interface is a clunky mess - it's entirely unintuitive and hard to find where anything is. Install times are insanely long on the Xbox as well, and nothing is transparent (you can't even see how much you have left other than a percentage - no file sizes, time remaining, or anything in the progress bar). It does have some great exclusives though: Sunset Overdrive is going to rank very highly on my top 10 list for 2014, Forza Horizon 2 is a game I want to pick up at some point, and the upcoming games like Scalebound and Rise of the Tomb Raider definitely interest me. So, basically...PS4 for multiplats, Xbox and Wii U for exclusives. That's my plan for this gen.
Yeah, but you have controller updates to sit through with the Xbox One. How can you beat that feature? >__>
I think the only thing that would persuade me to get the new gen consoles would be either Mass Effect 4, or a new Elder Scrolls game. Although, after reading what you guys just said, those games better be on the PS4, haha.
